WASHINGTON – U.S. Congressman Juan Ciscomani (AZ-06), a member of the House Appropriations Committee, showed his support for the passing of the House's second and final FY2024 appropriations package on Mar 22, 2024, ultimately avoiding a government shutdown.

Ciscomani expressed his dedication to ensuring the government functions effectively and responsibly by prioritizing funding for Arizona's needs and eliminating wasteful spending. He stated, “Throughout this year’s appropriations process, my top priority was to keep the government working for the American people while striving for a responsible budget that funds Arizona’s priorities instead of government waste.”

Acknowledging the challenges of a divided government, Ciscomani highlighted the significance of the bill in maintaining essential government operations and safeguarding the nation. He affirmed, “Both funding packages were a product of a divided government; while it didn’t include every provision we wanted, the bill fulfills the most important role the government has, which is to protect its citizens. With this package, our federal government stays open and operating for our constituents, supports our troops, and provides for a strong national defense strategy.”

The appropriations package not only prevented a government shutdown but also secured funding for various crucial initiatives advocated by Congressman Ciscomani. These include support for Border Patrol overtime pay, DHS migrant custody and removal operations, U.S. Customs and Border Protection workforce care, and additional resources for Border Patrol Agents.

Furthermore, the package allocated funds for key programs such as assistance to Israel, TRIO programs in the Department of Education, research on cancers and Alzheimer’s, and Head Start programs. Additionally, it included provisions to enhance CBP Tethered Aerostats Radar Systems, support medical services in rural areas like Fort Huachuca, modernize Land Ports of Entry, and advocate for the FCC’s Affordable Connectivity Program.

Congressman Ciscomani's proactive involvement in the House Appropriations Committee has been instrumental in advancing Arizona's interests and ensuring critical funding for essential programs.
