Tucson's Mayor and Council have officially approved the appointment of Ann Chanecka as the new director of the Housing and Community Development (HCD) Department. Chanecka, who has been serving as the interim director since June 2023, brings over 20 years of experience in community development and urban planning to her new role.

"Congratulations to Ann Chanecka on her appointment as director of the City of Tucson Housing and Community Development Department," said Tucson Mayor Regina Romero. "Ann has made significant contributions to implementing our Housing Affordability Strategy for Tucson (HAST), successfully bringing more Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) projects to Tucson, like Milagro on Oracle, the City's first LIHTC project. She is an invaluable member of the City of Tucson team, and we look forward to Ann's leadership and commitment to working with Mayor and Council and our residents to create housing across the continuum."

Chanecka's dedication and expertise have been recognized by the City Manager, who expressed confidence in her ability to continue the vital work of the HCD Department. "Ann's exemplary work has demonstrated that she is well-suited to carry forward the vital work happening in HCD," said City Manager Ortega. "It is through her leadership that we have successfully implemented current elements of the HAST plan, established the El Pueblo Housing Development nonprofit, secured the $50 million Choice Grant, and much more. The magnitude of need in our community, combined with the historic level of investment in housing projects, requires continuity and stability of leadership that Ann can provide."

Expressing her gratitude for the appointment, Chanecka stated, "I am thankful and sincerely honored to be appointed as the director of HCD. HCD contributes vital and impactful work to Tucson by helping the most vulnerable individuals and families. I will keep the community and the impact our department makes at the forefront of my decision making."

The Housing & Community Development Department is dedicated to the vision of a community in which every Tucsonan has safe, quality, and affordable housing. With a staff of 170 employees, the department plays a crucial role in addressing the housing needs of the city.

This appointment signifies a continuation of the important work being done by the HCD Department and highlights the commitment of the City of Tucson to address housing affordability and support its residents. With Ann Chanecka at the helm, the department is poised to continue making a positive impact on the lives of Tucson residents.
