TUCSON, AZ – U.S. Congressman Juan Ciscomani (R-AZ-06) this week joined a bipartisan group of Arizona lawmakers in urging the Air Force to work closely with the state’s congressional delegation and the local Tucson community to secure the long-term future of Davis-Monthan Air Force Base (DM AFB).
CongressmanCiscomani, alongside Senators Mark Kelly (D-AZ) and Kyrsten Sinema (I-AZ), and Congressman Ruben Gallego (D-AZ-03), penned a letter to Air Force Secretary Frank Kendall after receiving a briefing on the future of the base last month.
“In recent days, we have been briefed by the Air Force on its plan for the base’s mission over the next five years, and we were encouraged by the Air Force’s intention to bring new, durable flying missions to the base,” said the lawmakers in the letter. “Our hope is to work together, alongside the Air Force and the local Tucson community, to secure the long-term future of Davis-Monthan Air Force Base and protect our national security.”
As Congress continues its work on the annual National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) and yearly appropriations process, the group asked Secretary Kendall and his staff to expand community engagement with Tucson defense stakeholders, elected officials, and local leaders, and provide regular updates to the congressional delegation on progress including facility reviews, military construction, and incoming missions.
