Wildcats Win Home Opener vs. UTEP

Women's Tennis started off their season with a *insert score* win over UTEP in a windy match on Sunday, Jan. 15. in their first of 16 home matches.

Despite losing the doubles point, the Cats bounced back in singles play with six wins – five of which were won in straight sets. Sophomore Parker Fry clinched the match 6-1, 7-5 against Thassane Abrahim at No. 4 in the lineup and freshman Tanvi Narendran won her first dual singles match 6-4, 6-3 against Zuzanna Szczepanska.

Senior Kayla Wilkins battled Veronika Lebisova to three sets after falling 1-6 and coming back 6-2. The match was left unfinished due to inclement weather. 

Match marked the first time the Cats have hosted the Miners since 2017. The Wildcats have a perfect 8-0 record in their series against the Miners. In their last matchup on Jan. 31, 2022, Arizona swept UTEP 7-0. 

Up next for the women's team is the ITA Kickoff in College Station, Texas where they compete against No. 18 Florida in round one on Friday, Jan. 27.
