Arizona Athletics had another historic semester this spring, posting a record-breaking ninth consecutive semester with a department grade point average of 3.0 or above. Arizona student-athletes' overall semester GPA of 3.082 in Spring 2022 pushed their cumulative GPA to a 3.224 with both marks being the second highest for a spring semester in school history.
"Arizona Athletics' standard of excellence in the classroom continues to elevate as our student-athletes achieve record-breaking success each year," said Vice President and Director of Athletics Dave Heeke. "This spring marked one of the best semesters in the department's academic history with an overall GPA of 3.082 and an impressive cumulative GPA of 3.224. Our athletics department's "Wildcat Way" mission to develop academic, athletic and life champions continues to be fulfilled at the highest level as our student-athletes are a point of pride for the University of Arizona and our Southern Arizona community."
Arizona Women's Golf, with a team GPA of 3.821 for the semester, was the highest GPA among all women's teams while Men's Cross Country earned the top male honor with a 3.484. Women's Golf's mark was a program record as Baseball and Men's Basketball also set GPA records in the spring.
Approximately 65.3 percent of student-athletes earn a 3.0 GPA or higher with 41.4 percent of the student-athlete population earning above a 3.50 GPA. From a program perspective, 16 of Arizona's 21 teams earned a GPA of 3.0 or above.
The unrivaled academic success of Arizona Athletics over the past decade has seen the department set numerous records. Arizona's 3.157 GPA in the Fall of 2021 was the highest semester GPA in department history and marked the seventh consecutive year that Arizona has broken its Fall overall semester. Arizona's two most recent graduate success rate (GSR) scores of 86 and 87 percent were the highest and second highest in school history.
