Tucson's Mayor and Council on Tuesday night approved City Manager Michael Ortega's appointment of Samuel Credio, professional engineer, to serve as the new director of the Department of Transportation and Mobility (DTM). Credio was selected following a national recruitment and competitive selection process. The finalists were interviewed by City staff and a panel that included neighborhood representatives, bicycle and pedestrian safety advocates, transit stakeholders, and public and private sector engineering professionals. Credio joined the City of Tucson in April 2012 as an engineering project manager in the then-named Tucson Department of Transportation. Later, he was promoted to an engineering manager within the Capital Project Management Section, which, at the time, was responsible for delivering the voter-approved Proposition 409 bond package to improve city streets. As the DTM director, Credio will oversee a budget of more than $280 million and provide leadership to 304 full-time employees in several divisions.
