Arizona Drops Series Opener to Sun Devils

No. 14 Arizona fell, 9-2, in the first game of the series to No. 20 Arizona State on Friday night

The Wildcats had seven hits – five singles, one double, and a home run –  but couldn't work their way back from an early 3-0 deficit.

Carlie Scupin and Allie Skaggs went 2-for-3, and Scupin had two RBI.

 Arizona State struck first with a two-RBI single in the first inning and added another run in the second on an RBI double.

Scupin brought the game within one run in the second on a two-RBI home run – her 12th of the season.

The Sun Devils had two sacrifice flies and an RBI double in the fifth.  They added two more in the sixth and one more in the seventh to secure  the 9-2 win.

 Hanah Bowen (6-3) picked up the loss after pitching the first two innings and giving up three runs. Madi Elish pitched 3.2 innings in relief for Bowen, giving up five runs. Jessie Fontes entered for Elish in the sixth, pitching 1.1 innings.
