Arizona Beats Oregon State in Pac-12 Home Opener

Announcement

University of Arizona Athletics issued the following announcement on Sept. 26.

The Wildcats defeated the Beavers 3-0 on Sunday for their seventh straight sweep in McKale Center this season. Arizona was led by Jaelyn Hodge with 13 kills and Sofia Maldonado Diaz with 11 kills. Zyonna Fellows led the Cats' defense with three blocks, helping keep the Beavers to a .083 hitting percentage.  

Set 1 | Arizona - 25, Oregon State - 22

Arizona won the first set 25-22. Maldonado Diaz started the match strong for the Wildcats with five kills and an ace in Set 1. Hodge had four kills and Fellows tallied three kills and one block. Emery Herman directed Arizona's offense with 15 assists.

Set 2 | Arizona - 25, Oregon State - 19

In the second set, Hodge knocked down six kills, giving her 10 kills on the match. Herman and Maldonado Diaz each served an ace. Fellows matched her first set performance, recording three kills and one block in Set 2. Kamaile Hiapo contributed four digs and Dilara Gedikoglu had three digs to keep the Beavers to a .088 hitting percentage.

Set 3 | Arizona - 25, Oregon State - 17

Maldonado Diaz led the Wildcats' offense again with four kills, an assist, and a career high two block solos to keep the Beavers from scoring. Hodge recorded three kills in the third set, totaling 13 kills in the match. Maldonado Diaz's two block solos and two blocks by the team led the Wildcats to keep Oregon State to a -.083 hitting percentage.

The Wildcats will make their first Pac-12 road trip to the Bay Area to take on California on Friday, October 1 at 7 p.m. MST and Stanford on Sunday, October 3 at 1 p.m. MST.
