Tucson Police Department issued the following announcement on Aug. 26.
The Tucson Police Department been hosting a catalytic converter etching event on Saturday, August 28, 2021. Operations Division West/Neighborhood Crimes Section has identified several area businesses, which are willing to assist the Tucson community by using their repair bays to conduct the event. To participate, vehicle owners are asked to contact one of the businesses listed below to set up an appointment for August 28th. The participating shops will etch the vehicle’s catalytic converter with the last 8 characters of their VIN, at no cost.
Etching your catalytic converter is one of several steps you can take to protect your vehicle. Other steps include; parking in well-lit areas, parking in a garage or close to building entrances, adjusting your vehicle’s security system to activate from vibrations, or installing a catalytic converter-specific security device.
