A partnership between Pima County and the Downtown Tucson Partnership seeks to help slow the spread of COVID-19 by distributing personal protection equipment (PPE) to local downtown businesses.

The initiative was started to assist businesses with safe and successful reopenings.

Kathleen Eriksen, DTP’s president and chief executive officer, said it is important for PPE to be available given the Pima County Board of Supervisors’ decision last month to enact a public health resolution mandating facial coverings in public if social distancing is impossible to practice.

A group of public health experts and physicians called the Back to Business Road to Recovery subcommittee provided the board with recommendations as the area grapples with an increase of positive coronavirus cases.

Eriksen praised the steps taken to protect public health but acknowledged that some businesses need help in procuring PPE. She said she was excited about the partnership.
