Arizona Pima County Republican Committee recently issued the following announcement.
A Mexican transportation official said a long-awaited — and frequently delayed — four-lane interstate should be finished this spring.
Current Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador and his predecessor Enrique Peña Nieto both have promised to finish that highway, but the expected completion dates have repeatedly come and gone. Once done, the major roadway will provide four high-speed lanes from the Arizona-Sonora border in Nogales all the way to the Sonora-Sinaloa border. And according to federal transportation delegate Eduardo Pacheco, that’s just two to two-and-a-half months out.
“We are just about to finish,” he told Hermosillo broadcaster Uniradio Noticias, adding that the project is 99% complete, and most of the remaining work is between Ímuris and Nogales. That includes laying concrete, adding drainage and building walls, he said.
