After graduating from high school, Moreno enrolled at the University of Arizona. He earned a degree in marketing. His career began in advertising, where he gained valuable experience. In 1984, Moreno co-founded Outdoor Systems, a billboard advertising company. The company grew rapidly and was sold to Infinity Broadcasting for $8 billion in 1999.

Moreno’s most notable achievement came on May 15, 2003. He became the first Mexican-American to own a major sports team in the United States by purchasing the Anaheim Angels baseball team from the Walt Disney Company. His ownership marked a significant milestone in sports history. Moreno’s impact on the team was immediate, with increased fan engagement and team success.

Moreno’s connection to Tucson remained strong throughout his life. He contributed to local causes and supported the community. His success story inspired many in Tucson and beyond, highlighting the potential of hard work and determination.
