Arizona State Representative Rachel (Jones) Keshel, a Republican elected in 2023 to represent the state’s 17th House District, has publicly called for the resignation of Tucson City Council member Lane Santa Cruz following controversial remarks made by Santa Cruz on social media.
On September 12, 2025, Jones posted on her X account: “Apparently this hateful individual’s boss, city councilwoman Lane Santa Cruz, is just as vile. She posted ‘Karma. If you know you know. May your little God curse you.’ She needs to resign immediately. Flood her with emails and phone calls. (520) 791-4040 ward1@tucsonaz.gov”.
Later that day, Jones reiterated her stance with another post: “I am calling for the immediate resignation of Tucson City Council member Lane Santa Cruz. Her comments about the cold-blooded murder of Charlie Kirk are evil and unbecoming of an elected official. I also am calling for the firing of her Director of Constituent Services, Benny”.
In a third post on September 12, Jones commented on campaign activity in Tucson: “Showing up on Republican candidate signs in Tucson. I have no words other than PURE EVIL.”
Jones was elected to the Arizona State House in 2023 after replacing former state representative Jennifer Pawlik.
