Arizona State Representative Rachel (Jones) Keshel has recently used her social media platform to address issues related to candidate eligibility and personal safety. Jones, a Republican who was elected to the Arizona State House in 2023 to represent the state’s 17th House District, replacing previous state representative Jennifer Pawlik, posted several statements on X over the past few days.
On April 7, Jones wrote, “Tomorrow it’s time to start taking names and kicking ass.”
The following day, she addressed concerns about proper procedures for determining ballot eligibility and referenced personal threats: “There are proper ways to go about ensuring that a candidate is eligible to be on the ballot or not. It includes a court of law and a judge’s very specific decision. It does NOT include obsessive stalking and unhinged harassment, encouraging cuckoos to make me the next Gabby” (April 8).
On April 9, Jones shared another brief post: “This!!!”
Jones’ reference to “the next Gabby” appears connected to former U.S. Representative Gabrielle Giffords of Arizona, who survived an assassination attempt in 2011 during a public event in Tucson.
These recent posts highlight ongoing tensions surrounding election processes and candidate security in Arizona politics.
