On January 8, 2011, Jared Lee Loughner committed a mass shooting in Tucson, AZ, targeting U.S. Representative Gabby Giffords and attendees of a public event. Loughner injured Giffords severely and killed six individuals, including Chief U.S. District Court Judge John Roll, Gabe Zimmerman, and a 9-year-old girl, Christina-Taylor Green. In total, he shot and injured 13 people before being subdued by bystanders. Loughner’s actions shocked the nation and highlighted the issue of gun violence in America.
