Devon Gables Rehabilitation Center emerged as the largest nursing home in Pima County for the first quarter of 2026, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) reported.

The facility offered 312 beds—185 more than the Pima County average during the same period—and served an average of 183.6 residents in Q1 2026.

The CMS assigned Devon Gables Rehabilitation Center an overall rating of 2 out of 5, which fell below Arizona nursing homes’ average of 3.4.

Sandstone of Tucson Rehab Centre was noted as the county’s second largest nursing home for the quarter, providing 240 beds; Casas Adobes Post Acute Rehab Center followed with 230 beds.

Devon Gables Rehabilitation Center reported no fines or penalties during the first quarter of 2026.

Pima County, Arizona, reported a total of 22 for-profit nursing homes.

U.S. Census Bureau estimates show the aging adult population is rising, while younger groups are shrinking. From 2020 through 2024, Americans age 65 and older grew by 13%, whereas those under 18 decreased by 1.7%. Over the previous century, the older adult population in the U.S. has increased significantly, expanding from 4.9 million in 1920 to over 61 million in 2024.

A 2021 study found that nearly half of Americans in this age group, about 28 million, will likely need long-term services and supports, and projections indicate more than one-third may require nursing home care.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
