Representative Juan Ciscomani has joined the Congressional Optics and Photonics Caucus, a bipartisan group focused on supporting U.S. leadership in optics and photonics technologies. These fields are important for advancements in defense, health care, mining, communications, semiconductors, energy, and space exploration.

Arizona’s Sixth Congressional District is home to many companies involved in precision optics, lasers, imaging, and semiconductor technologies. Congressman Ciscomani decided to join the caucus after visiting Edmund Optics in Tucson earlier this year.

“I’m honored to join the Optics and Photonics Caucus as your representative in Congress,” said Congressman Ciscomani. “This bipartisan effort will allow me to bring Arizona’s strengths to the national dialogue about science, technology, and workforce development.”

Steven G. Zylstra, President and CEO of the Arizona Technology Council, said: “Arizona has long been a global hub for optics and photonics, and Congressman Ciscomani’s support further strengthens our voice in Washington. His engagement will help ensure that federal policy reflects the importance of this sector to national security and economic competitiveness.”

Karla Morales, Vice President of the Arizona Technology Council added: “Arizona is a global leader in optics and photonics, and Rep. Ciscomani’s decision to join the Optics & Photonics Caucus strengthens that leadership. From advancing national security and space technologies to powering medical and manufacturing innovations, this sector is a cornerstone of our state’s economy. We’re grateful for the Congressman’s commitment to championing the companies, researchers, and workforce driving these breakthroughs—especially across Southern Arizona.”

Katie Schwertz, Chair of Optics Valley said: “Optics Valley is proud to see Congressman Ciscomani join this bipartisan caucus. His participation underscores the critical role that Southern Arizona plays in advancing optical science and technology, and we look forward to working with him to advocate for the growth of our industry and its workforce.”

The Congressional Optics and Photonics Caucus aims to educate policymakers about the economic impact of optics technologies. It also advocates for federal investment in research as well as workforce training programs needed for skilled technicians.

Juan Ciscomani currently serves as U.S. Representative for Arizona’s 6th district after replacing Ann Kirkpatrick in 2023.
