State Representative Rachel Keshel has expressed strong disapproval of the Vail Unified School District after a photo surfaced showing employees wearing shirts with “Problem Solved” slogans. These shirts are perceived to reference the assassination of Charlie Kirk, which has caused significant distress within the community.
“As a proud southern Arizona legislator, I am deeply outraged by the recent reports of staff at Vail Unified School District donning costumes that seemingly mock the tragic assassination of Charlie Kirk—complete with ‘Problem Solved’ slogans and simulated blood stains on the same side that Charlie’s fatal wound was on,” said Keshel. She emphasized that schools should be places for education rather than political conflict or celebrations of violence.
Keshel highlighted the pain felt by Kirk’s family and supporters, criticizing educators for potentially trivializing such a serious event. She dismissed claims that these were merely “math problem-solving” shirts from last year, noting that alumni, including her daughter, did not recall math teachers wearing them previously. Keshel acknowledged that while these shirts can be purchased online, they are inappropriate given recent events.
The representative called on Superintendent John Carruth to take action against those involved in creating or allowing these costumes. “I am calling on Superintendent John Carruth to take immediate and decisive action: terminate the employment of every individual involved in creating, wearing, or permitting these abhorrent costumes,” she urged.
Keshel is committed to supporting legislation to ensure accountability for such actions in schools. She serves Legislative District 17 in Arizona, covering areas like East Tucson and Oro Valley.
